Assateague Island

We spend our vacations on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, specifically Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. On the drive (or bike) to the beach, one can often see the wild ponies:

The Park Service allows visitors to reserve a fire site for free in the evenings; otherwise, fires must be contained in a grill or drum. This was the first time we'd reserved a site, and it won't be the last.

While the fire was being built, some of us enjoyed the water's edge at dusk. (Uh, note to self: crop my bottom)

I am forever telling my children that they are fortunate. (By the way, Happy Birthday to the man in the lava lava!)
